Ingredients
- Dried black-eyed peas
- Smoked hog jowl
- Chopped onion
- Minced garlic
- Chicken broth
- Salt
- Black pepper
- Cayenne pepper
- Bay leaves (optional)
- Smoked paprika (optional)
Instructions
- Soak dried peas overnight, then drain.
- Slice hog jowl and fry until golden; set aside.
- Sauté onions and garlic in reserved hog jowl fat.
- Add peas, broth, seasonings, and hog jowl to a large pot.
- Simmer for about 1 hour until peas are tender.
- Taste and adjust seasoning; serve warm with cornbread or collard green.
