Description
A one-pan chicken dinner with caramelized onions and melted cheese.
Ingredients
- Boneless skinless chicken breasts – 2 large
- Salt – ½ tsp
- Black pepper – ¼ tsp
- Olive oil – 1 tbsp
- Butter – 1 tbsp
- Yellow onions, thinly sliced – 3 large
- Garlic, minced – 2 cloves
- Beef broth – 1 cup
- Worcestershire sauce – 1 tsp
- Fresh thyme (or ½ tsp dried) – 1 tsp
- Gruyère or Swiss cheese, shredded – 1 cup
- Parsley, chopped (optional) – 1 tbsp
Instructions
- Season chicken with salt and pepper.
- Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
- Sear chicken 4–5 minutes per side until golden. Remove and set aside.
- Add butter and onions to the skillet. Cook 10–12 minutes, stirring, until deeply caramelized.
- Add garlic and cook 30 seconds until fragrant.
- Pour in beef broth and Worcestershire sauce. Scrape browned bits from the pan.
- Return chicken to the skillet and simmer 5–7 minutes until cooked through.
- Sprinkle cheese over the chicken. Cover until melted.
- Garnish with parsley and serve hot.
Notes
- Use low-sodium broth to control salt.
- Add mushrooms for extra depth.
- Serve with crusty bread.
