Description

A one-pan chicken dinner with caramelized onions and melted cheese.


Ingredients

  • Boneless skinless chicken breasts – 2 large
  • Salt – ½ tsp
  • Black pepper – ¼ tsp
  • Olive oil – 1 tbsp
  • Butter – 1 tbsp
  • Yellow onions, thinly sliced – 3 large
  • Garlic, minced – 2 cloves
  • Beef broth – 1 cup
  • Worcestershire sauce – 1 tsp
  • Fresh thyme (or ½ tsp dried) – 1 tsp
  • Gruyère or Swiss cheese, shredded – 1 cup
  • Parsley, chopped (optional) – 1 tbsp

Instructions

  1. Season chicken with salt and pepper.
  2. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
  3. Sear chicken 4–5 minutes per side until golden. Remove and set aside.
  4. Add butter and onions to the skillet. Cook 10–12 minutes, stirring, until deeply caramelized.
  5. Add garlic and cook 30 seconds until fragrant.
  6. Pour in beef broth and Worcestershire sauce. Scrape browned bits from the pan.
  7. Return chicken to the skillet and simmer 5–7 minutes until cooked through.
  8. Sprinkle cheese over the chicken. Cover until melted.
  9. Garnish with parsley and serve hot.

  • Use low-sodium broth to control salt.
  • Add mushrooms for extra depth.
  • Serve with crusty bread.
