Ingredients
- Olive oil – 1 tbsp
- Smoked sausage or kielbasa, sliced – 12 oz (340 g)
- Yellow onion, chopped – 1 medium
- Garlic, minced – 3 cloves
- Green cabbage, chopped – 5 cups
- Carrots, sliced – 2 medium
- Low-sodium chicken broth – 4 cups (960 ml)
- Heavy cream or half-and-half – ¾ cup (180 ml)
- Smoked paprika – ½ tsp
- Salt – ¾ tsp (adjust to taste)
- Black pepper – ½ tsp
- Fresh thyme or parsley (optional garnish)
Instructions
- Heat olive oil in a large pot over medium heat.
- Add sliced sausage and cook 4–5 minutes until browned.
- Stir in onion and cook 3 minutes until softened.
- Add garlic and cook 30 seconds until fragrant.
- Add cabbage and carrots. Cook 3–4 minutes until slightly wilted.
- Pour in chicken broth, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper.
- Bring to a simmer and cook 12–15 minutes until vegetables are tender.
- Reduce heat to low. Stir in heavy cream until smooth and creamy.
- Taste and adjust seasoning if needed.
- Serve hot, topped with fresh herbs if desired.
