Ingredients

  • Olive oil – 1 tbsp
  • Smoked sausage or kielbasa, sliced – 12 oz (340 g)
  • Yellow onion, chopped – 1 medium
  • Garlic, minced – 3 cloves
  • Green cabbage, chopped – 5 cups
  • Carrots, sliced – 2 medium
  • Low-sodium chicken broth – 4 cups (960 ml)
  • Heavy cream or half-and-half – ¾ cup (180 ml)
  • Smoked paprika – ½ tsp
  • Salt – ¾ tsp (adjust to taste)
  • Black pepper – ½ tsp
  • Fresh thyme or parsley (optional garnish)

Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil in a large pot over medium heat.
  2. Add sliced sausage and cook 4–5 minutes until browned.
  3. Stir in onion and cook 3 minutes until softened.
  4. Add garlic and cook 30 seconds until fragrant.
  5. Add cabbage and carrots. Cook 3–4 minutes until slightly wilted.
  6. Pour in chicken broth, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper.
  7. Bring to a simmer and cook 12–15 minutes until vegetables are tender.
  8. Reduce heat to low. Stir in heavy cream until smooth and creamy.
  9. Taste and adjust seasoning if needed.
  10. Serve hot, topped with fresh herbs if desired.
